We need to move
towards climate neutrality.

Seedgreen aims to provide participants with a space for climate action. We validate and accelerate promising ideas into green solutions.

This five-month programme is an initiative by the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Enterprise (MEEE), Junior Chamber International Malta (JCI Malta) and supported by Malta Enterprise as part of the national #ClimateOn campaign and by EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub

Intro

This initiative is an equity-free mentor-driven validator and accelerator programme.

We strive to raise awareness. The choices we make today will influence the kind of planet our children and grandchildren inherit. Our goal is to invite startup participants to execute a tangible proof-of-concept project based on an early-stage prototype. The top three solutions will receive a pre-seed investment to turn green ideas into innovative low-carbon business undertakings.

Tutoring

During cohort meetings, qualified tutors will guide participants by sharing their thematic expertise to reach our educational milestones.

Mentoring

During one-on-one meetings, mentors will guide the finalists by sharing their specialistic know-how to reach our technical milestones.

Funding

During the pre-seed round, the winners will apply all the lessons learned from tutors and mentors to reach our commercial milestones.

    Scope

Let's drive the market to better and greener solutions.

Climate change can seem like a problem that is either too big, or too far ahead, for us to mitigate. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, we seek participants who want to step up and help lead Malta to climate neutrality. Seedgreen will be open to individuals, or teams, that can successfully build scalable low-carbon startups in one of our ten main priority areas.

    Eligibility

We are open to the upcoming
    generation of green innovators.

Even though we are one of the smallest island nations worldwide, we can still offer new business models that get us from the tools we currently rely on to a set of robust innovations that transition us towards a more sustainable society. We want pursuits that try to create clean, affordable products and services that benefit both our economy and the environment.

    Initiative

    It's time to take collective
    action against climate change.

Early support for entrepreneurs is fundamental. Seedgreen will be broken down into two separate stages: Validator and Accelerator.

    Expression of Interest:
    Opens – 24/06/2022
    Closes – 24/07/2022

    Validator:
    Opens – 30/07/2022
    Closes – 15/11/2022

    Validator - Main steps

    First step

The Validator Stage is open for all participants who would like to submit an Expression of Interest application by the stipulated deadline. Throughout the initiative, we want to promote an open area for anyone to create their teams and brainstorm interesting ideas which address specific environmental challenges.

    Second step

We will provide an extensive range of tutoring sessions on business, technology, and sustainability during the first weeks. Their purpose is to help participants structure their thoughts and receive expert feedback to understand how green solutions from promising ideas can help mitigate climate change.

    Third step

At the end of the Validator Stage, participants will be requested to prepare a more detailed business proposal of their green solution. An independent committee, made up of members from MEEE, JCI Malta, Malta Enterprise, EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub and third-party experts, will review all the submissions and determine which six most promising ideas graduate to the Accelerator Stage (the finalists of the Programme).

    Accelerator - Main steps

    Fourth step

The Accelerator Stage will follow specific milestones and, through the direction of mentors, JCI Malta and Malta Enterprise, finalists will receive the required support to achieve these goals. These interactions will help them establish a roadmap for where they want to take their idea further and turn it into a solution.

    Fifth step

Finalists will also be offered extra tutoring sessions to help them structure their thoughts further and discuss difficulties. This component aims to drive the finalists and their idea to the point that results in workable business undertakings that they can sustain well after the initiative finishes. At the end of this Stage, the finalists will pitch their ideas in front of a jury of experts (comprising MEEE, JCI Malta, Malta Enterprise, EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub and other independent experts) who will determine the best three solutions of the Programme.

    Sixth step

Shortly after the review, a closing ceremony will occur where the top three green solutions will receive pre-seed funding. Moreover, after the Programme, the winners will be able to enter into discussions with Malta Enterprise to be guided about their available schemes as well as be informed about EIT Climate-KIC Malta Hub’s start-up programmes.. We will also offer the three runner-ups the chance to participate in JCI Malta programmes in a voluntary setting.

    Funds

    Seedgreen will help catalyse
    promising innovations.

MEEE will provide pre-seed funding to the best three green solutions. If eligible, the other 3 finalists, will get the possibility to participate in next year’s JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur international competition offered by JCI Malta and continue implementing their ventures further in a voluntary setting with JCI La Valette, JCI Wignacourt or JCI de Rohan.
